For the gun question - good point on the question not pointing out that the permit holder could not consume alcohol. We will ask the question again with that information included. Thank you for the feedback.

One of the hard part about asking polling questions is that you can't tell the person you are polling every bit of information as that would make the survey instrument so long nobody would stay around to the finish.

The amount of dollars spent is not the problem, it is HOW they are spent. Nothing will equal parental involvement with the kids education. The school is not a substitute parent. The schools are to educate; self esteem and discipline are the parents job.

There was a question about concealed cary in places that serve alcohol. What wasn't pointed out was that the permit holder would not be allowed to drink alcohol while carrying in that establishment. Also that less than 0.29% of concealed carry permits have been revoked as of 2009 in North Carolina.

You state this:
Currently, the state pays for all of the state employees’ and teacher’s health insurance costs. Teachers and state employees pay nothing. Do you support or oppose a bill passed this year by the state legislature requiring state employees and teachers to pay between 11 and 22 dollars each month for their health insurance?

My daughter is a single teacher and she does pay health insurance premiums.

what gives ?

BTW I am a Fan of Civitas

Jay

I think it good to know a little about public education most are NOT aware of. The State Assembly quietly eliminated the statewide gateway system whereas 3rd and 8th graders had to meet benchmark standards in order to be promoted. Principals passed them on anyway because many were considered discipline problems. Apparently, too many HS students were failing the U.S. History and Economics-Civics EOC exams. So, these were eliminated, too. Result? An ignorant electorate! But, have heart! HS football coaches won't actually have to teach Social Studies anymore... Status quo... So, are your hard earned dollars producing better prepared students?

I am a NC teacher. The new standards are a joke. If the purpose of public education is to create an informed voter, we've failed miserably. According to a recent poll, only 12% of HS grads are considered proficient in their knowledge of the Constitution. It didn't measure levels of proficiency in understanding basic principles of Economics, but it should had. How can someone be an informed voter when they don't even understand the simple time tested idea Keynesian Economics (stimulus by government) is and was a complete failure? PEOPLE create wealth! We need to conduct elections based upon objective data - this is not American Idol. By the way, if I must sacrifice as a teacher for the better good, so be it. I'll not behave as the teachers in Wisconsin.
