Primary Turnout Trends by County

Turnout by voters in both political parties was up significantly compared to the 2004 primary election. With a highly contested Democratic presidential primary, turnout by Democrats was nearly three times higher than in 2004, and approximately three-fourths of voters requested Democratic ballots. Republican turnout was up more than 25 percent compared to 2004.

Republican turnout assumes the greater of the presidential or gubernatorial ballots cast.

Turnout does not take into account undervotes in presidential and gubernatorial races;

Counties in yellow have been identified as having questionable data:

(1) The total number of votes cast in the Democratic presidential primary and the

greater of the Republican presidential or gubernatorial primaries exceeds the

number of ballots reported cast; and/or
