The Civitas Academy of Practical Politics goes beyond the average political science class. The class is taught by experienced Democratic and Republican political consultants in conjunction with Civitas. It takes college and graduate students into the world of practical politics by teaching the fundamentals of campaigns and campaign management. Additionally, the Academy of Practical Politics can count towards a class credit at participating universities with the approval of the appropriate department and professor.
Political experts from Washington D.C. and North Carolina share their personal experiences in politics and campaigning to offer real life perspectives in proven campaign management techniques. Students apply what they learn in class by conducting research, planning strategy and developing media plans for North Carolina campaigns as a member of a campaign team.
Graduates of the program have gone on to hold positions in Republican and Democratic campaigns at the state and national level. They have also worked at party offices, for senators and congressmen, in the General assembly and have put their knowledge to use with PACs, lobbyists and nonprofits.
