Another reason taxpayer money should not be used in political campaigns

Today Rielle Hunter, John Edwards’ mistress, appeared before a federal grand jury to testify in an investigation on the illegal use of campaign and PAC funds. In 2007 Edwards was awarded $8.8 million in federal matching funds for his failed presidential campaign. What  followed is a federal investigation into the Edwards campaign. When things like this happen you have to ask why the taxpayers are subsidizing politicians?

In NC we are rapidly becoming the leading state in the practice of using taxpayer money to subsidize politicians running for office. In the current General Assembly a number of bills have been introduced to expand this practice to cities, the entire council of state and specifically to the Treasurers race. If we don’t stop the practice and reverse what we have already done, expect to see politicians from NC acting just like John Edwards – misbehaving with your money.
