Although the state doesn’t have to foot the bill for the cost of the three infamous Jennette’s Pier wind turbines, operation and maintenance costs will prevail. If this is any indication, what will the cost be to taxpayers after the pier is built to completion?
“Blades of one of the three wind turbines on the North Carolina Aquariums’ Jennette’s Pier have stopped spinning in preparation for their replacement…Two of the 10-kilowatt turbines, manufactured by Bergey Windpower Co. in Norman, Okla. were installed on the pier on May 19. The turbines are generating power, (Aquariums Director David) Griffin said, but they will not be hooked to the pier’s electric supply until later in the project.”
