Easley does not remember McQueen requesting payment for home repair work.
Easley’s recollection is that Campbell would submit his bills to Barker Management. But, Easley does remember from documents he has reveiwed recently, that Campbell called him in 2005 about a leak and Easley told him to go ahead and get it fixed.
He said that he understood that the damage was from tenant abuse and that the campaign was renting it and the campaign should pay for the damage. Easley told Campbell to leave the insurance company out of this damage because he thought that the insurance company might cancel the policy if he had submitted a claim.
Easley has since found out that the contractor of the work made a claim for money and the contractor was McQueen Campbell. Easley does not recall receiving the check. He found out that the check was deposited only after he found out about one of the invoices McQueen Campbell submitted to the campaign for reimbursement for travel – but it was created due to work performed on Easley’s rental property.
Easley said Campbell was an up-and-comer and pretty aggressive guy – Easley defended for speeding tickets. Easley does not recall saying he was one of the most honest guys he knows – Easley said he would have said something like that about Campbells father. But Easley trusted him.
