It was heartwarming to hear President Bush stand up today (finally) and defend capitalism and the free market system. My question is, where was this speech 8 weeks ago during discussion on the bailout, or 8 months ago or even 8 years ago.
His "compassionate conservatism" of increased regulation and increased government involvement in our lives are what has led us into much of the problems we have today.
This paragraph is fantastic:
opportunity, if you seek social justice and human dignity, the free
market system is the way. The triumph of free market capitalism has
been proven across time, geography, culture, and faith. And it would a
terrible mistake to allow a few months of crisis to undermine 60 years
of success."
I just wish he would have practiced a little more of what he preached. Maybe then we wouldn't be in this mess…
