The nomination process for the Democratic members of the Wake County Board of Elections caused such a commotion in June, it’s funny that no one is talking about the final results. Maybe they think we won’t notice…
John Gilbert has been ousted from and Aida Doss Havel has been appointed to the Wake County Board of Elections. Sharon Everett is now the Chair of the Board.
Evidently neither the State Democratic Party nor the State Board of Elections decided to take the advice of the News and Observer. You will remember its endorsement of Gilbert in a June 20, 2009 editorial.
And, we will wait to see if the Verified Voting lobby now has a seat at the Wake County Board of Elections table. Verified Voting was outspoken in their disapproval of Gilbert’s support for a pilot of the Instant Runoff Voting (IRV) in Cary in 2007.
My hope is that our State will move past special interests and partisan politics and begin to make law and policies that will enhance the integrity of the election process in North Carolina.
