The Chapel Hill Sustainable Community Visioning Task Force, which is in charge of planning growth for the town, voted to put everything on hold because the committee wasn’t racially diverse enough.
The current committee members, all white, were chosen through an application process, no minorities applied. According to their Web site, they are adding six new members for the purpose of adding diversity.
The name of the committee alone makes me pretty suspicious. Things will probably work out better for Chapel Hill residents if they never get down to business.
The reason things are stalled is laughable. Only Chapel Hill could take affirmative action to such an extreme.
The committee's actions might be justified if there was some kind of discriminatory selection process, but that is not the case. Rather they decided to supplement a nondiscriminatory selection process with a blatantly race-based one.
I encourage all minority conservatives, to apply. It doesn't matter what your background is, race is qualification enough.
