George Will's column "Green job estimates, blown away", highlights the lunacy behind federal efforts to help rebuild the economy through green jobs. Will — and many others — remain puzzled over the Obama administration's decision to highlight Spain's initiatives in creating green jobs – especially when the country is suffering from an unemployment rate of 18.1 percent — twice the European average. Will also cites a report by a Spanish economics professor that says green jobs require huge subsidies, create jobs that are - more often than not -temporary; and usually result in the loss of 2.2 other jobs for every job created, becuase of the misallocation of capital.
Unfortunately, the lunacy is not limited to the federal level. Similar efforts touting "green jobs" as economic savior also afflict state and local government. The August issue of Civitas Review Magazine will be highlighting the many absurdities of the green movement in North Carolina.
