Raleigh Mayor Mike Meeker had a press conference yesterday to make sure people knew the city is ready to elbow it’s way up to the Federal trough and get it’s share of the Federal stimulus package.
In talking about the city's proposed projects for Federal funding, Meeker shamelessly says, “we are putting forth projects that are either unfunded or partially funded. We’re not really sure how (the stimulus) is going to work, but we’ll have our projects ready.” Meeker then discusses how critical it is to obtain federal funding for many of these projects. My question: If Raleigh can’t finance the project, why is the city even proposing it?
Aren’t you glad to know the Mayor is developing well thought out proposals, some of which are so important no financing has even been attached? Regrettably, the city’s proposals for how to spend your hard earned Federal tax dollars — some of which include such projects as fencing softball fields and Greenway development — go along way in explaining Raleigh’s fiscal mismanagement and why so many of our cities are in such a financial mess.
I love the title of the report. ECONOMIC STIMULUS PROJECTS.
Seems like everything is now……….stimulus-connected.
