As a result of Gov. Perdue signing HB-9, it will be forbidden to text message while driving after Dec. 1. I know I feel safer already.
All kidding aside, Red Clay is a responsible member of society, but this is just too much. The bill offers no enforcement mechanism at all. Can a police officer pull me over just for having my phone open? What if I am dialing a number? That looks a lot like texting to someone parked on the side of a highway. It seems to me the only way for an officer to make the determination is to go through my call and messaging records…and that is not cool if you ask me.
The bottom line is that this is another way for the Legislature, and the Governor, to say they are trying to save lives without actually doing anything relevant. This is a noble cause, but this bill is just more nanny-statism.
