Planned Parenthood just announced that they are going to sue the State of North Carolina for the budget cuts which cut all state and federal funds to Planned Parenthood agencies. According to WRAL, Planned Parenthood is saying that their group is being targeted for their abortion-rights advocacy and that their right to free speech is threatened.
Part of their argument is that there are already laws in place that bar taxpayer money from being used towards abortions.
As a result of the budget cuts, Planned Parenthood will see a nearly $300,000 drop in taxpayer funding which they claim only went to fund contraceptives and other non-abortion related services.
I don’t know about you, but I am skeptical that what we see as non-abortion related and what Planned Parenthood sees as non-abortion related are exactly the same.
It is logical that any money going toward an organization that broadcasts its abortion services is equal to support for abortion. Certainly that is what Rep. Paul Stam and many of the other Republican legislators think.
Regardless, it gives me great relief to hear that my tax money is not going anywhere near the abortion industry and I hope the federal courts realize the link here.
