First the schools – especially Wake Co. – colluded with the papers – especially the N&O – to scare everyone into thinking the schools would be spilling over. (Never mind that the teachers’ interests have created a protectionist racket around the "smaller class size" mythology.) Now new numbers indicate Wake County is 2000 pupils short of predictions (read: scare tactics made while the General Assembly was in session, designed to justify raiding your pockets, were inaccurate.)
Of course, couple the hysteria over new pupils with the idea that there aren’t enough resources to pay for new schools to house them. And yet – apart from illegal immigrants – Wake County isn’t being overrun by poor people. These newcomers (mostly professionals) pay taxes. If schools and growth don’t pay for themselves, someone is squandering school resources, somewhere.

Thanks for reporting this. It’s completely outrageous. When will taxpayers/voters catch on?
