Over the weekend, news broke that the Raleigh City Council will consider a resolution Tuesday afternoon to oppose the Marriage Amendment. The meeting will take place December 6 at 1pm at the Avery C. Upchurch Government Complex. It will be one of the first acts of the new Raleigh Mayor, Nancy McFarlane and the new Council.
The outgoing Mayor, Chalres Meeker, had made it clear he wants to provide benefits for same-sex partners of city employees. It is possible there may be a push for these benefits leading up to the Amendment vote. To contact the Council, you may reach them at 919-996-305 or by email at citycouncilors@raleighnc.gov.
