That was the bill that would have split NC’s Electoral College votes by Congressional District.
Remember how it passed the Senate (with only D’s voting yes), then passed 2nd Reading in the House (again with only D’s voting yes), then magically "disappeared" and was re-referred to the Election Law Committee?
I hope everyone has heard by now that California is attempting to pass a similar measure and now all of those who thought it was a great bill for North Carolina are saying just how horrible it would be for California.
According to the Democratic National Committee, the California initiative is just a "dirty trick" by Rudy Giuliani "to steal the White House for Republicans."
And the NY Times editorialized that it "would rig elections in a way that would make it difficult for a Democrat to be elected president, no matter how the popular vote comes out. If the initiative passes, it would do serious damage to American democracy."
Well then, what does that make the North Carolina bill that so many Democrats voted for and praised as "the best way to give voters more say in who NC actually supports for President"?
Pot, meet kettle.
