Our southern "hospitality" — i.e. economic development subsidies and tax breaks — is apparently making waves. (See this excellent John Sugg piece on the South’s, particularly NC’s, corporate welfare.)
But there are serious problems with government’s picking winners and losers in the economy. Never mind that it’s wrong for big companies to get special treatment, while little guys lose out — as with Google. Instead of showering them with gifts, why not just make the business climate fertile with low taxes?
