The North Carolina Motor Fuels Tax (the state gas tax) is expected to go from 35 cents per gallon to 38.9 cents per gallon at the beginning of 2012 if no action is taken by the General Assembly, according to staff at the legislature and the Department of Transportation.

We need to cut expenses. The tax should not be raised. I fear the taxes are spent on other stuff just as the lottery money is. I have school teacher friends who say they still don’t have many funds. I’m voting straight republican next time. If they don’t do something I’ll try independent or democrat. Our government, state and federal, are out of control.

Do yourself a favor and doa FOIA request to your State Rep., ask he or she exactly who is the Motor Vehicle Fuels tax imposed on. Do this for your own record. Now here’s the truth. The Motor Vehicle Fuels Tax is imposed upon the use of a Motor Vehicle upon the public highways. Oh wait, you own a motor vehicle? Are you sure? Congress defind a Motor Vehicle as a type of instrument which is used to engage in a commercial activity upon the public highways. Do you engage in a commercial activity? You do if you haul freight or people for pay. Going to the grocery store, doctors office or church in your private mode of transportation is not a commercial activity. So, why are you paying a Motor Vehicle Fuels Tax?
