Today marks the beginning of a new fiscal year for North Carolina and while legislators still focus on finishing the budget, here is a sample of new state laws effective today:
(SB 287) STATE HEALTH PLAN $/GOOD HEALTH INITIATIVES.
An act to appropriate funds (ie:$ 675 million) for the State Health Plan for teachers and state employees.
(HB 97) ACTIVE DUTY HUNTING/FISHING LICENSE EXEMPTION.
Active duty members of the military, who are residents of NC, including those who are home on leave, can hunt and fish without a license.
(SB 204) RETIRED NURSES RETURN TO WORK.
An act to enable retirees of the Teachers' and State Employees' Retirement System to return to employment as nursing instructors without losing retirement benefits.
(HB 482) REINSTATEMENT OF SICK LEAVE/SCHOOL EMPLOYEES.
Unused sick leave for retired school employees is now reinstated.
(HB 439) STATE HEALTH PLAN/TAXPAYER RECOVERY ACT.
The state health plan will now make payments for county or city ambulance services directly to the county or city ambulance service provider.
