The reason why I helped write the standards and the reason why I am here today is that as a white male in society I am given a lot of privilege that I didn’t earn.
Those are the words of Professor David Pook, a history professor at Granite State College in New Hampshire. Pook was speaking to a gathering at the New Hampshire Institute of Politics earlier this year about the New Hampshire Common Core Standards. The video was captured by the news site Campus Reform earlier this year.
Pook worked closely with Susan Pimental to help draft the Common Core English Language Arts Standards. From the sounds of his bio, it appears Pook has been involved wit h other projects with organizations (Achieve, Student Achievement Partners) involved in developing and implementing Common Core Standards. This raises two questions: What standards did Pook help to write? And, Why is Pook, a history professor helping to write literacy standaards for English Language Arts?
White privilege and its elimination?
More reasons why you should oppose the deeply flawed and politicized Common Core Standards.
