The Washington Examiner reports North Carolina Democratic U.S. Senator Kay Hagan and Democratic Representative Heath Shuler each received $5,000 in campaign donations from New York Democratic Representative Charles Rangel. Rangel is facing several charges of unethical conduct from the House Committe on Standards of Official Conduct.
Reporter Mark Hemingway also writes:
…Rep. G.K. Butterfield, D-N.C., received contributions totaling $3,000, also during the 2004 cycle. …A spokesman for Butterfield could not be reached at either his Washington or district offices.
They are among 52 Democrats who are holding onto Rangel’s money. Hemingway reports 27 incumbent Democrats have returned the donations or given them to charity.
