In these difficult economic times the town of Garner doesn’t seen to be too concerned about using taxpayer dollars efficiently.
The town council voted last week to accept the second lowest bid for trash collection services. This move is going to cost the taxpayers an extra $40,000 a year for the next three years.
According to an article in the News and Observer, council members accepted the higher bid because the company they chose would “be a part of the Garner business community.”
Wouldn’t any company the town of Garner does business with “be part of the Garner business community?”
If Garner is willing to pay more for exactly the same services why do they pretend to have a bid process at all?
Also, the lower bid was submitted by a minority owned business. Where is Barack Obama when you need him?
Just to clarify, if Garner used a large waste management company then a large portion of taxpayer dollars would be sent to other parts of the country. Paying a little more to a smaller, local company would be a better idea during a recession because more of the funds would be used to stimulate the “Garner” economy.
