April 30-May 6 is National Charter Schools Week. It’s a week to celebrate the tremendous educational opportunities charter schools provide for children in North Carolina and throughout our country.
Charter schools have been a great success in North Carolina. Following the removal of the charter school cap in 2011, the number of charter schools and charter school enrollment expanded significantly.
Today there are 168 charter schools enrolling over 92,000 students. Charter schools are some off the best schools in North Carolina. 2015-16 Performance and Growth Results for the North Carolina Public Schools reveal 50.3 percent of public charter schools received overall grades of “B” as compared to 27.5 percent traditional public schools.
This is good news. It may also help to explain why charter school enrollment has more than doubled in the last five years. It’s an option that parents and students want.
It’s an option that’s working. It’s an option worth celebrating!
That’s worth celebrating!

How about a shout out for traditional public schools!
How about we outlaw government brainwashing centers (i.e. “public”) schools and prosecute all the rapists and perverts who run them for child abuse?
