Bill Drafting head honcho Gerry Cohen took some exception to my post last week that called out Gov. Bev Perdue for her premature declaration that not passing a budget was "costing" the state $5 million per day. (See the comments at the end of the post.)
Turns out, I'm not the only one.
House Majority Leader Hugh Holliman (D-Davidson) is also questioning her claims.
Legislative budget analysts said Monday that the governor's math doesn't add up.
"If
we had tax credits or tax increases going into effect on July 1, it
would be costing us, but we didn't," House Majority Leader Hugh
Holliman said.
In the House plan, some additional taxes are
planned for Aug. 1, but the majority of them would be effective in
either October or January.
Now, I'm no budget analyst, I'll leave the number crunching to Balfour, but I can see quite easily when Gov. Perdue is again using scare tactics and rhetoric (that winds up not being true) to bully the public into tax increases. And once again, she's getting called out on it.
