Over at NC Capitol Connection, Matt Caulder had a story giving one explanation about why the legislature undermined the voter ID law: a state agency had chop-blocked the state’s legal case, by trying to charge for state ID’s that by law were free.
A bigger question might be: Why did this happen? Who’s was responsible? Will anyone be disciplined because of it?
We conservatives worry, rightly, about the size of government. But leave aside size, government is too powerful if the people running it are not accountable, even if they commit major blunders.
