Over the last decade the number of education options available to North Carolina parents has grown significantly. Today more than 146,000 students are enrolled in public charter schools or one of the three publicly funded private school choice programs.
How do parents feel about these programs? That’s what EdChoice wanted to know when it fielded a recent Survey of Families Schooling Experience in North Carolina. The results were released earlier this week. What did they find?
- Over 80 percent of parents of children in the Opportunity Scholarship Program or Education Savings Account Program are satisfied with their respective choices.
- Parents give very high ratings to their child’s school across multiple dimensions of school climate.
- Nearly half (47%) of private, charter, traditional public, and homeschool parents who have never had a child participate in an ESA or voucher program said they were unaware the programs existed.
