Index crimes used to calculate the crime rate:

    Violent crime: Murder, rape, robbery and aggravated assault.
    Property crime: Burglary, larceny, motor vehicle theft, and arson.

Crime Rate = Crimes per 100,000 persons

Ten Year Trends are from 1997 to 2006.

Data Availability Issues:  Data for Hyde and Pamlico counties are from 2005 rather than 2006. Data for Mitchell County are from 1998 rather than 1997.
