Michael Harden is the Director of Agriculture Studies and Outreach at the Civitas Institute. In that capacity he works to improve the policy environment for farmers and producers throughout North Carolina by removing barriers to markets and increasing choices for our consumers.

Before joining the Civitas Institute, Michael served as the Senior Director of Development at the State Policy Network with a focus on stewarding donors in the freedom movement. He also served as the Georgia State Director of Americans for Prosperity where he led a top-performing team advancing liberty. During his tenure, AFP-GA led in passing the largest tax cut in state history, advancing education freedom and fighting cronyism and overregulation at every turn.

Prior to that role, Michael served two terms in the Georgia House of Representatives representing Georgia’s 28th House district. While in the legislature Michael served on numerous committees including Agriculture, Vice Chair of the Banks and Banking committee and as a Majority Deputy Whip.

Michael’s work has been cited by many newspaper and digital outlets and he has also appeared on Fox News and HLN.

In his free time, you can find Michael at this family’s farm making memories with his wife Janelle and their two young children.
