Yesterday, some amazing things happened in the state Legislature. And, unless you really pay attention you may have missed them. Luckily we here at Red Clay have a cot in the Legislative Office Building just so we can bring you this report. (Note to Capitol Police: We don't really have a cot in the LOB. We were being pithy.)
Sen. Malcolm Graham (D-Mecklenburg) actually stated publicly that he believes that Raleigh "just can't legislate everything," and that there is a role for city and county governments in law making. The other amazing thing that Red Clay could hardly believe is that a piece of legislation, HB 1353,that uses global warming as its rationale for passage, failed.
Does the leftist Legislature latently loathe the land? Have our Raleigh elite suddenly become devolutionist crusaders? Is Red Clay taking crazy pills?
The answer of course is no. But sometimes, even left-wingers simply overreach. Rep. Pricey Harrison (D-Guilford) proposed HB 1353, claiming “It’s their (urban clothesliners) small step that they can take toward global warming issue.”
Red Clay respects its elected officials, and does not wish to be cynical, but this type of legislation is just too much. So today we choose to focus on the positive…thank you Sen. Graham.
