Last night in Rocky Mount, the City Council had an open meeting and heard several petitions from local residents. In the following clip (0:00 – 3:53), Lige Daughtridge, a local business leader , presents an argument for more hearings about the proposed Rocky Mount Event Center. Daughtridge is part of a local group called the Community Council that was formed to inform citizens about issues such as the Event Center. Points of concern included the amount of money being spent on studies for the event center and whether or not more opinions from the community should be heard. The question left on the table was: Would an Event Center in Rocky Mount be the best use of city resources?
What happens on the video from 8:34 – 10:38 may startle you. Andre Knight, a City Councilman and arrestee at “Witness Wednesday,” began to question Daughtridge’s motives for raising concerns about the Event Center. The main point Knight presented was that the questioning arose “because of the makeup of the Council” and that there is an African American City Manager. While looking through all the arguments against the event center, there is no mention of the demographic makeup of Rocky Mount.
Was the Councilman looking out for the good of the community – or pulling the race card? Check out the video and decide for yourself.
Councilman Knight sounded rather defensive and said/claimed the project had been thoroughly researched ? did he hold up a copy of said research to defend his position ? no he did not..Not saying said report(s) do not exist, but if you do make such a claim..one as a matter of “ntegrity” should have your proof within your reach
for the life of me ,i cannot understand why the citizenry of ROCKY MOUNT , CONTINUES TO TOLERATE MR. KNIGHTS ARROGANCE TOWARDS THE WHITE / AMERICAN CITIZENS OF THIS ONCE GREAT CITY TO LIVE IN .
YES , HE IS USING RACE AS HIS AGENDA .
What is the basis for Mr. Knight’s comment?
I do not think an entertainment center is going to be profitable in Rocky Mount. Knight positioned himself in a district that he coulld mire down with negativity. Maybe he should model himself after President Obama and be positive and become part of the modern and current America. He seems to be stuck in the past with no desire to move forward.
Racist d-bag…..an event center will not improve quality of life, it’ll just be another million tax dollars squandered by idiots, like Knight, in rocky that shouldn’t be able to make these decisions.
Andre Knight is the biggest racist around. Why he is permitted to bring up race every time he doesn’t get exactly what he wants when he wants it is ridiculous. I don’t understand why he continues to be on the board.
I watched the vid a couple of times. Mr. Knight used deflection. He also made an attack on a city planner. Mudslinging at it’s finest. He clearly has an agenda, and it’s not in plain view.
They didn’t tell you that in their study they found that they will make no money what so ever. An event center will operate at a 2 million deficit. I defiantly don’t think tax payers want to be responsible for that 2 mill down the drain a year. And how long before they decide it’s not worth it and it will be just another vacant building in rocky mount
Another study! The City of Rocky Mount will consider spending $67,430 with Visions Inc. a company co-founded by current NC Senator and former City Council Member Angela Bryant.
