They’re probably an improvement on the idea of the roundabout, or “rotaries” as we used to call them back in Boston.
Personally, I prefer “Suicide Circle”, an appellation also traditionally applied to the DC Capitol Beltway.
They increase the number of wrecks, but the wrecks are generally much less severe. The angle that a vehicle entering the roundabout is similar to that of the vehicles already in them, so there are no 90 degree crashes, which are much morel likely to kill and injure.
That being said, I find roundabouts to be a big pain.
