Term limits for the House Speaker and Senate President Pro Tem received bipartisan support in the Senate with a 35-9 vote to approve a constitutional amendment. The measure then moved to the House. The legislative leaders would be limited to four consecutive two-year terms. That would be eight years, the same as the Governor and Lt. Governor.
The bill, H823, was originally a proposal to change the governance of public education, but new language on the term limits was substituted.
If the House approves the measure voters would get the final say on the November ballot.
Now they need to move on to judges and sheriffs. Term limits for the US President and Governors but no one else? Makes no sense. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
