One of the "tax break" proposals Governor Perdue will include in her budget when it is released on Tuesday provides small business with a disincentive to making money. Her proposal:
$100,000 in annual profits can exempt the first $25,000 of net income
from state tax. Businesses with profits between $100,000 and $200,000
would be able to exempt the first $15,000
So if your small-business makes $99,999 in profit, you can exempt the first $25,000 of net income from state tax.
However, if your business makes just $1 more, you lose $10,000 of exemptions.
So she's creating an incentive for businesses to stop making money! What kind of economic growth strategy is that?
