Occupy Raleigh participant, Tariq James Taylor, 21, was found dead after shooting three people at a Wendell Food Lion. But before he committed that crime he had already been arrested at Occupy Raleigh in October.
It was a tragic occurrence for those innocent people who were in the Food Lion and were victims of this man. But is should also be a cautionary tale for those people who find the Occupy Movement all butterflies and unicorns. Some of the people attracted to the occupy movement, as to any movement, are not going to be the most stable of people and may be dangerous. We have heard the reports from around the country of violent occurrences and now we have one here in the triangle.
While the press has not made this connection in print or online, I would say that the Chapel Hill Police have to be given the benefit of the doubt as to how they handled trespassing occupiers in Chapel Hill. It also calls into question the judgement of local governments who look the other way as occupiers appear to violate local laws and zoning ordinances. Would this not be considered a rental campground that has to go through the normal business permitting and zoning approval?
