Today marks the opening day of the 2015 legislative session. Being an odd-numbered year, this will be a “long session” (due to its earlier start date) and will include the development of the FY 2015-17 biennial budget bill.
Lawmakers will also be confronting many other pressing issues. The Civitas Institute today released its legislative agenda of actions they’d like to see this year. The Institute’s “Top 5 in 2015” focus on: Medicaid reform and expansion, reducing the state budget, expanding school choice, fighting EPA rules, and requiring proof of citizenship to register to vote.
There are other issues that should be addressed as well, including: Common Core, the state’s reliance on federal funds and the elimination of corporate welfare.
